Who We Are
NRI Legal Services India is the dedicated NRI-facing practice of the Law Offices of Advocate Naresh Kalra, a Chandigarh/Mohali-based law firm with more than two decades of litigation and advisory experience across civil, criminal, corporate and cross-border matters. While the parent firm serves clients across India, this practice was built specifically around a recurring pattern we noticed over the years: a growing number of our clients were not in India at all — they were calling from Houston at midnight, from London on a lunch break, from Dubai between work shifts, or from Sydney the next morning, all trying to protect a piece of property, a parent's estate, or a family relationship back home.
That pattern became a practice. Today, NRI Legal Services India handles matters for Non-Resident Indians and Persons of Indian Origin across the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, and Europe, with property disputes forming the largest and most urgent share of our caseload.
Our Mission for NRIs
Our mission is simple: an NRI should never have to choose between protecting their legal rights in India and staying settled in their adopted country. We aim to make that trade-off unnecessary by handling the Indian side of your legal matter end-to-end — drafting, filing, court appearances through Power of Attorney, and client communication — while you continue your life and work abroad, updated through scheduled video calls rather than unpredictable phone tag.
Why NRIs Need India-Specific Legal Help
Legal problems involving Indian property, inheritance, or family matters cannot be solved by a lawyer in your country of residence — they require an advocate who is enrolled to practice in India, understands the relevant Indian statutes, and can physically appear before the correct Indian court, revenue office, or registrar. Three practical issues make this especially hard for NRIs without the right partner:
Jurisdiction. Indian civil and criminal matters must ordinarily be filed and heard in the specific district or High Court where the property or cause of action is located — not where you live. A lawyer without on-the-ground presence in that specific jurisdiction, and without relationships with local court staff and process, will always be at a disadvantage.
Power of Attorney and remote litigation. An NRI can authorize a trusted representative or advocate to act on their behalf in India through a Power of Attorney, executed abroad and attested at the relevant Indian Consulate or Embassy, then adjudicated and registered in India under the Registration Act, 1908 and the Power of Attorney Act, 1882. Getting this document wrong — incomplete attestation, incorrect scope of authority, missing registration — is one of the most common reasons NRI cases stall for months.
Time zones. Indian courts sit during Indian business hours, which fall in the middle of the night across most of North America and much of Europe. Coordinating hearing dates, document signatures, and urgent instructions across a 9.5 to 13.5 hour time difference requires a firm that plans consultations around your schedule, not the other way round.
Our Credentials
Advocate Naresh Kalra holds an MCA and LLB and has practiced law for over 20 years. His work has included expert consulting for the Enforcement Directorate on IT and PMLA (Prevention of Money Laundering Act) court e-filing systems, and consulting engagements with federal courts in Nigeria, Ghana, and Kenya. He specializes in blockchain and cyber law, IPO-related matters, and cross-border legal disputes — a combination of experience that is directly relevant to NRIs whose lives and assets span multiple jurisdictions.
The firm operates from four locations in India — a Corporate Office in Mohali, Chandigarh, a Legal Office in Chandigarh, a New Delhi office near Hauz Khas, and a Supreme Court chamber on Mathura Road, Delhi — giving us direct reach into Punjab, Haryana, Delhi/NCR, and the Supreme Court of India. Just as importantly for our NRI clients, we maintain international associate touchpoints in Dubai (UAE), Ontario (Canada), London (UK), and Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), so that document execution, client meetings, and coordination in your country of residence do not always have to happen over a screen.

Most NRI property and family matters trace back to ancestral land or family homes in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi/NCR, which is exactly where our India offices are strongest — giving us the local relationships, court familiarity, and revenue-department knowledge that remote or generalist firms typically lack. For matters before the Supreme Court of India, our Advocate-on-Record based at our Mathura Road chamber in Delhi ensures continuity from the trial court stage through to the apex court, without having to bring in unfamiliar outside counsel partway through your case.
